FAQ’s
Future Hope is a registered not-for-profit charity based in Emerald, Queensland, Australia. We are a small charity run entirely by a band of wonderful volunteers. Through the generosity of our Supporters and Sponsors, we are positively impacting the lives of children in Australia, Thailand and Uganda.
Starting with just one child, we have now expanded into three countries providing meals, uniforms, school supplies and so much more.
At Future Hope we support the work of charities that are already well established and doing great work. We do not believe in reinventing the wheel and would rather help keep a perfectly good wheel turning by supporting organisations that are doing something we believe in.
Future Hope has been proudly supporting the following charities:
Udon Thani Lions Club in Thailand since 2008
Bridge Christian Ministries in Uganda since 2018
Variety the Children’s Charity in Queensland since 2019
Because of the generosity of businesses and supporters just like you, we can give 100% of all profits from our fundraising directly to the children who need it. Thank you!
To learn more about how we began and the work we do, read Our Story.
Because we believe that every child matters, we are thorough and intentional. We ensure that every child is supported, from the time we meet them, to when they are self-sufficient and no longer needing our support. If we try to do too much too soon, people get left behind, and that is not who we are.
Remember our motto – Every Child Matters. We focus on the needs of every single child before committing to more children. As much as we would love to feed, clothe, educate and protect EVERY child in the world, we are realistic about what we can do today.
Future Hope works closely with the charities we support. It is important for us to build relationships based on trust, integrity and transparency and the charities we support feel the same. We know these charities well. We know their people by name. Tamara has met many of their team face-to-face. She has talked, shared meals, asked questions (LOTS of questions) discussed solutions, laughed, and cried with them. They are part of the Future Hope Family and are as passionate as our volunteers and sponsors are in creating a better world for our children.
Our strategy is relationship, and relationship is key.
There are many ways to get involved. You can find out more on the Get Involved page. In a nutshell, you can:
Make a one-off donation – no amount is too small… or LARGE!
Commit to a monthly donation of any amount. This really helps us to plan ahead.
Sponsor a child in Thailand or Uganda. Starting from just $10 a month, you will change a child’s life forever!
Join our volunteer family – no matter where you live, or what your skills.
Host your own fundraising event at home, at work or in your community.
Help with running costs to cover market stall site fees, stationery, sugar for Sno Cones etc.
Spread the word. Share our Facebook page and this website with your friends, family and work colleagues.
And anything else you can come up with (oh, and please let us know – with photos and hashtags!)
100% of your sponsorship money goes directly to the project to support your sponsored child and their community (yes, you read 100% correctly).
We achieve this because Future Hope is run by a small group of wonderful, amazing and superhuman volunteers. We have regular sausage sizzles and our stall at our local markets where we sell Sno Cones and products brought back from Thailand and Uganda. This, along with donations from generous supporters and local businesses helps cover our running costs.
It is with your generous support that we can help so many children in Australia, Thailand, and Uganda. Without your contribution this simply would not happen. So, thank you!
At the moment, your donation is not tax-deductible. We are working towards Future Hope receiving DGR (Deductible Gift Recipient) status. While we wait for it to come through, children still need to eat, go to school, and feel safe and supported.
In the meantime, we appreciate your patience and support to help us continue our important work for these beautiful children.
We understand you may not be able to afford to sponsor a child or donate to help the work of Future Hope. The main thing is that you want to! Our founder Tamara started raising funds after her very first trip to Thailand by hosting a dinner at home and asking everyone to contribute $15 dollars. You can make it a monthly event where everyone brings a plate and you can take turns hosting. What a beautiful gift of giving to share with your friends and family!
Here are some more simple ideas HERE –
1. Share the love! If you want to sponsor a child, share the sponsorship with your friends and family. Some things are better together. Child sponsorship with Future Hope starts at just $10 a month! Sponsor a child in Thailand here. Or if your group is a bit larger, sponsor a Ugandan child for $30 a month.
2. Save your silver. If you pop your loose change into a jar, you will not miss it, but it will make a world of difference to a child’s life. You can use a jar or a cardboard box, but if you would like one of our fancy-schmancy donation boxes, please let us know here.
3. Go without one or two coffees a week and use that money to ensure a child has a nourishing meal every day through our Breakfast Club in Uganda.
4. Collect cash at work. Put a collection box out at your workplace, or ask your local café, gym or favourite retail store. As a work family, together you can all support a child and their community.
5. Hold a Tuesday Tea Party at work. Take along some fancy teas and tasty treats and sell them to your work colleagues. Better still, ask everyone to bring a plate and a gold coin! If you live somewhere warm (like Emerald, Queensland) and would prefer a cold drink, ask us to send you an amazing Thai Iced Tea recipe from our friends in Thailand.
6. Own too much stuff? You could do a big clean out and have a garage sale. You’ll end up less to clean and dust, and you’ll help a child in the process! And you will have a great opportunity to meet those in your community (your ‘customers’) and tell them all about where your donation is going.
That depends where you want them to. Remember You Choose Your Support.
Future Hope currently supports children in Australia, Thailand and Uganda. To find out about the great work we fund in each of these countries, visit the Support a Child page.
The exciting part? You get to choose where your support goes. If you have a heart for a specific country, your donation will go there.
We like to be transparent with the money you have so generously donated, so check out the details below!
Monthly Events
If you come along to one of our monthly events the money you spend gets shared across Australia, Thailand, Uganda as well as running costs.
Annual Events
The funds raised at our annual events give us the opportunity to invest in expanding our reach so we can help more children. This could be through one-off projects or the purchase of capital equipment.
Child Sponsorship
100% of your hard earned money goes directly to your sponsored child. The operating costs for the projects that support your child are funded in other ways such as through our monthly and annual events.
General Donation
This is shared across Australia, Thailand, Uganda and Running Costs.
Specified Donation
This goes to where YOU specify. For example, we have two people making ‘Specified Donations’ towards Tamara’s annual flights as well as her wage (currently only approximately 8 hours per week). One generous supporter made a generous donation and when we explained the way she could choose where her support goes, she felt it needed to go to Uganda as her brother is planning on joining us on team next time we visit the children there. People can also specify that they want their support to go to Australia, Thailand, Uganda, or to things like stationary, ink, sugar etc. Remember, You Choose Your Support. This is YOUR money, and all we do is put it where YOU want it to go.
Because we believe Every Child Matters there is no difference between helping children locally or globally. A child is a child no matter where they are. However, if your heart is to support Aussie kids, you can find out more about our annual Jet Trek to support Variety the Children’s Charity here in Australia on our Support a Child – Australia page.
Like any charity, we have costs. Fortunately, we also have a family of amazing volunteers and supporters whose generosity means our costs are very low. You can also be assured that 100% of profits always go directly to the children and communities through the charities we support. We welcome one-off or regular donations to help pay for our running costs.
The more running costs we can cover, the more children we can help. We need help to pay for items such as:
· Market fees (monthly site fees)
· Sno Cones (sugar, flavours, spoons, cups, cleaning products etc.)
· Sausage Sizzles (soft drinks, sauces, napkins etc.)
· Stationery (paper, printer ink, pens etc.)
· Insurance
· Postage
Find out more about our costs here.
